The BGMEA Garment Village, located within the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar (BSMSN) in the port city of Chittagong, is making significant progress in overcoming the longstanding challenges.
After considerable delays, development work has finally commenced in the area. The Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (Beza) has committed to gradually providing essential utility services, including internal road networks, drainage systems, and effluent treatment plants (ETPs).
Abdullah Al Mahmood Farooq, the director of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Shilpa Nagar Development Project, noted that with the commencement of development work, investors are now in a position to initiate the construction of factories even as he indicated that gas and electricity supply would be made available within the next seven months.
Presently, investors are eagerly anticipating the imminent commencement of factory construction activities even as the Beza officially inaugurated the development work on 21st July, setting a projected completion timeframe of two years.
Spanning across an extensive 500-acre land parcel, the Garment Village, affiliated with the BGMEA, is set to take shape. Of this expanse, approximately 321 acres have been earmarked for the construction of garment factories while the remaining area is dedicated to the establishment of critical infrastructure components, encompassing internal roads, drainage systems, ETPs, electricity, gas, and water provisions.
