A delegation of BRAC — known formerly as the Bangladesh Rehabilitation Assistance Committee, then as the Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, and later as Building Resources Across Communities, BRAC is a non-governmental organisation founded in Bangladesh in 1972 by Sir Fazle Hasan Abed — called upon the newly elected President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Faruque Hassan, at the BGMEA office on 30 May (Sunday).
Led by the BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh, the delegation, reportedly, held discussions with BGMEA — apart from Faruque Hassan, BGMEA Vice-President Md. Shahidullah Azim, Vice-President Miran Ali, Directors Md. Mohiuddin Rubel and Md. Imranur Rahman attended the meeting — on possible areas of collaboration between the apex garment makers’ body (BGMEA) and BRAC, especially on issues and specific activities for the benefit of the apparel industry through livelihood programmes and social enterprises of BRAC.
As per reports, during the discussion, the BRAC delegation was, reportedly, apprised of the present situation of the readymade garment sector in the country and the future priorities to identify fields of collaboration so as to design programmes accordingly.
