Bangladesh’s apparel garment makers’ body the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has sought simplified bond services for the readymade garment industry.
Reports underlined this adding BGMEA President Faruque Hassan during his recent meeting with Commissioner of Customs Bond Commissionerate, Chittagong, AKM Mahbubur Rahman urged the Customs Bond Commissionerate to streamline customs and bond-related procedures and provide faster services for the apparel sector.
Underlining that apparel export is a very time-bound business where every second matters, the BGMEA President maintained, “day by day the competition is getting stiffer and buyers want their orders delivered quickly and on time,” while adding if the garment exporters get faster services from the Customs Bond Commissionerate, it will only help them cut down on the lead time while saving additional cost of shipment delays.
The BGMEA President was reportedly accompanied by the First Vice President and Vice President of the trade body, Syed Nazrul Islam and Rakibul Alam Chowdhury respectively apart from former First Vice Presidents Moinuddin Ahmed Mintu and Nasir Uddin Chowdhury and current Directors Md M Mohiuddin Chowdhury, AM Shafiul Karim (Khokon), M Ahsanul Hoq, Mohammed Meraj-E-Mostafa (Kaisar) and former directors at the meeting with AKM Mahbubur Rahman.
