Trade through Benapole Land Port — Benapole Land Port is the largest land port of Bangladesh, located in Benapole town of Sharsha Upazila in the Jessore District. Operated by the Bangladesh Land Port Authority (BLPA), it is the most important land port of Bangladesh and around 90 per cent of imported Indian goods enter the country through this port — resumed operation from 16 May (Sunday) following the end of Eid-ul-Fitr holidays as trucks began coming and going on this route from Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Abdul Jalil, the Benapole Land Port Deputy Director (Administration), underlined that all concerned have been given instructions to ensure quick delivery of goods even as the General Secretary of the Benapole C&F Agent Staff Welfare Association, Sajedur Rahman, on his part maintained that hundreds of trucks were stranded at Petrapole port (Indian port) during the Eid holidays while reports suggests that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, reportedly, asked businesses to continue import-export activities in compliance with the health regulations even as West Bengal has entered into a lockdown to control the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
It may be mentioned here that jute and jute products are amongst the main items exported by Bangladesh through the Benapole land port even as foodstuffs and industrial raw materials, including for the readymade garment industry, constitute the main imports from India through this land port.
