The third seaport in Bangladesh, Payra Port, is all set to witness arrival of larger ships from April.
This is as per a statement issued by the shipping ministry recently even as the vessels, arriving at the port will initially berth at a jetty of the Payra Thermal Power Plant, located next to the port, where the users will be able to load/unload cargo for subsequently transporting all over Bangladesh.
The statement further added from May onwards, ships will be able to berth at the port itself once the work on the first terminal is completed.
The shipping ministry underlined this after a meeting pertaining to the progress of the project’s implementation under the Annual Development Programme for fiscal 2022-23, which was chaired by the State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, and attended by Secretary of the Shipping Ministry, Md Mustafa Kamal, the Chairman of the Payra Port Authority (PPA), Rear Admiral Mohammad Sohail, along with the heads of different organisations.
