Mohammad Ali Khokon, who is the President of the Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA), has called upon Vietnam to invest in Bangladesh’s woven garment manufacturing sector so as to grab the opportunity created due to what he termed the recent ‘predicament’ faced by China even as he placed a four-point proposal in this regard.
Media reports maintained this while adding Mohammad Ali Khokon made the proposal to Vietnamese Ambassador to Bangladesh Pham Viet Chien, when the envoy called upon the BTMA President recently.
Referring to what he termed recent predicament faced by China, reportedly, in context to the US-China trade war and shifting of apparel work orders from China owing to power crisis and other issues, the BTMA President, reportedly, said this could be an opportunity for both Bangladesh and Vietnam while also underlining both countries can thus increase the trade volume through mutual understanding and can grab a minimum of US $ 200 billion market out of the total US $ 700 billion textile and clothing market even as he, reportedly, added that since Vietnam imports yarn from various countries all over the world, it can consider importing cotton yarn and yarn made of manmade fibre from Bangladesh while underlining local spinning sector was self-sufficient in producing cotton yarn while many were also producing yarn made of MMF.
