The Bangladeshi Government is reviewing its own tariffs on American goods in reaction to the United States recently imposing a 37 per cent tariff on imports from Bangladesh. Shafiqul Alam, the Chief Adviser’s press secretary, made the announcement in a statement.
Alam indicated that the National Board of Revenue is actively exploring options to rationalise tariffs promptly, a necessary step to address the new trade dynamics. “The United States is a close friend of Bangladesh and our largest export destination,” he stated. “We have been collaborating with the US since the Trump Administration took office to strengthen trade and investment ties between our two nations.”
He expressed optimism that ongoing discussions with the US Government would help mitigate the impact of the newly imposed tariffs. The situation underscores the importance of trade relations between Bangladesh and the United States as both countries navigate these recent developments.
