The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (Bida) is hosting the China-Bangladesh Conference on Investment and Trade on 1st June, aiming to boost foreign investment and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
The day-long summit is being jointly organised by the Governments of Bangladesh and China and is expected to feature approximately 250 Chinese investors and business delegates representing nearly 100 enterprises, including senior executives from six to seven Fortune 500 companies. Officials from Bida described this as the largest-ever Chinese business delegation to visit Bangladesh, highlighting a significant increase in bilateral commercial engagement.
Representatives from four major Chinese chambers of commerce will also participate, underscoring China’s growing interest in Bangladesh as a strategic investment hub in South Asia.
The event will be inaugurated by Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, who will serve as the chief guest, with Wang Wentao, China’s Commerce Minister, attending as the special guest. The summit is seen as a follow-up to Yunus’s recent official visit to China and the International Investment Summit held in Dhaka last April, both of which laid the groundwork for deeper economic cooperation.
Discussions during the conference will focus on sectors such as energy, information and communication technology (ICT), e-commerce, construction, and manufacturing. The agenda aims to identify concrete investment opportunities and foster long-term industrial partnerships.
Bida officials expressed optimism that the summit will catalyse new Chinese investments in infrastructure, technology, and export-oriented industries, marking a milestone moment in China-Bangladesh economic relations. The event is viewed as a significant step toward shaping the region’s future economic landscape through increased collaboration.
