Close on heels of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association’s (BGMEA) call for smooth gas supply for the industries, Bangladesh Government has withdrawn gas supply rationing to the industries including to the apparel sector.
Meanwhile, speaking to the media, Director (Operation and Mines) for Petrobangla — Petrobangla is a Government-owned national oil company of Bangladesh — reportedly maintained the company has decided to withdraw their previous decision of rationing gas supply as the current supply of gas seems adequate for all the sectors.
It may be mentioned here earlier on 21 April, BGMEA President Faruque Hassan called on the State Minister for the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid, and requested the Government to withdraw the gas rationing decision even if BGMEA Vice-President Shahidullah Azim; Managing Director of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited, Engineer Md Haronur Rashid Mullah; Senior Secretary, Energy and Mineral Resources Division, Md Mahbub Hossain; and Acting Chairman of Petrobangla, AKM Benjamin Riazi, were also present at the meeting between the BGMEA President and Nasrul Hamid.
