Workers from multiple units of Pacific Jeans Group in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone (CEPZ) held a demonstration this morning, advocating for their demands, which include opposing forced resignations and transfers of staff members.
Beginning at 8:00 AM, the protesters blocked the entrances to six of the group’s units and organised a procession that culminated in a sit-in outside the CEPZ Administrative Building.
Mohammad Solaiman, the additional Deputy Inspector General and Superintendent of Chittagong Industrial Police-3, reported that the workers are demanding an immediate stop to the dismissal of senior officials and staff members. “Our team is present at the location, striving to facilitate conversations between the workers and factory management to resolve their issues,” Solaiman explained.
CEPZ Executive Director Md Abdus Sobhan acknowledged the protest, noting that workers are particularly opposed to the forced resignations and transfers of several employees to different units. He confirmed that the management has committed to addressing the workers’ concerns and that discussions are ongoing to find a resolution to the issue.
