
Even as garment workers’ protests continue unabated, State Minister for Labour and Employment, Begum Monnujan Sufian, has underlined that the minimum wage for readymade garment workers will surpass the proposal put forth by factory owners.
Reports maintained this adding this is as per a statement issued by the concerned Ministry recently even as she encouraged the agitated workers to return to work and not be swayed by any contrary information.
When questioned about whether the minimum wage would exceed the Taka 10,400 offered by factory owners, the Minister affirmed, “It will unquestionably be higher. The wage must be established at a level greater than what the garment factory owners have suggested.”
Meanwhile, former shipping minister Shajahan Khan, reportedly expressed confidence that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will arrange for a wage that is acceptable to all parties.
Addressing the workers, he assured them, “The wage is not yet finalized, and there is ample time. There is no need to be uncertain. Trust the prime minister.”
