Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has urged economists to create their policies, plans and programmes considering the local environment in mind, as foreign counsel will not be beneficial in this situation.
“I want from the economists that you would design your policies, plans and programmes considering the soil and people of the country,” she said.
The premier made these remarks at the Institution of Engineers, Bangladesh (IEB) in the city’s Ramna neighbourhood, during the opening of the 22nd biennial conference of the Bangladesh Economic Association (BEA) for 2024. She claimed that any plan or strategy would be successful if it was created with the needs of the general people and local reality in mind.
The Prime Minister said that while Bangladeshi specialists may undoubtedly learn anything from overseas sources, they should apply it locally in light of the nation, its people, and its resources. She stated that Bangladesh has made significant progress in its development path and that her ambition is to see Bangladesh thrive via altering the destiny of its people.
The economists were tasked by the PM with developing strategies to increase the nation’s exports and fortify the rural economy.
“We need to produce export-oriented goods on a larger scale and diversify our exports. We’ve many more things to do here. I would like to see our economists to work on identifying other products that can be added to our export basket,” she said.
