Workers from Pratik Apparels Limited, a ready-made garment factory located in the Karnpara area, blocked the Dhaka-Aricha highway on Sunday night in a protest demanding payment of two months’ overdue wages. The demonstration began around 7:30 pm and continued until at least 10:15 pm, causing significant traffic congestion in both directions.
The workers expressed their frustration to local media, stating that despite previous protests, the factory owner has yet to settle their salaries. They were promised payment after iftar, but factory officials left without fulfilling their commitments, prompting the protest.
Mohammad Mominul Islam Bhuiyan, superintendent of Ashulia Industrial Police-1, confirmed that the workers had remained at the factory throughout the day demanding their overdue wages. He noted that the owner failed to make the promised payment, leading to the subsequent blockade.
“We, along with army personnel, are on the scene. There has been no response from the owner, and the workers are insisting on their salaries,” Bhuiyan added.
The situation remains tense as workers continue to demand their rights.
