Underlining that the recommendations made in ILO Convention 190 must be given priority and everyone in the parliament should be loud and clear about this, Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun has, reportedly, stated that signing the ILO Convention 190 is a must for ensuring the safety and economic wellbeing of the workers.
According to media reports, the Industries Minister made this observation while speaking at the virtual consultation meeting titled ‘Elimination of Harassment at the Workplace and ILO Convention 190’, held recently.
Conducted by former Governor of Bangladesh Bank and Chairman of Unnayan Shamannay Dr. Atiur Rahman, the consultation meeting was jointly organised by CARE Bangladesh and the Unnayan Shamannay, and participated amongst others by the former Minister, Member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour and Employment Shajahan Khan (MP), former State Minister, Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Women and Children Meher Afroz Chumki (MP), Country Director of CARE Bangladesh Ramesh Singh.
Speaking on the occasion Atiur Rahman, reportedly, maintained that Bangladesh’s industrial sector has improved a lot and compliances have been achieved in many industries but added that despite the improvement in the formal sector, workers were lagging in the informal sector.
