A readymade garment (RMG) factory in Narayanganj has agreed to extend Eid-ul-Fitr leave for its workers to 10 days after a protest on Thursday, 27th March. The decision followed a three-hour demonstration organized by the employees of Russel Garments, as confirmed by Industrial Police-4 Superintendent Selim Badshah.
The protest began around 11:00 am when workers inside the factory voiced their demand for an extended leave. By noon, they had moved outside and blocked the SM Maleh Road, causing a halt in vehicular movement for three hours. Despite multiple requests from the police to disperse, the workers remained steadfast in their demands.
After negotiations between factory management and the protesting workers, a consensus was reached, and the management agreed to grant the requested 10-day leave. By 3:00 pm, following the announcement, the workers cleared the road, ending the demonstration.
Nasir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of the Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed that the situation was resolved amicably after the factory authorities accepted the workers’ demands.
