A high-level delegation from JTOP Co. Ltd. (JTOP) and Mitsubishi UFJ Research and Consulting Co. Ltd. (MURC) met with Faruque Hassan, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), to strengthen environmental sustainability in the country’s garment industry.
According to a press release, the delegation, led by Jiichi Nakaki from JTOP and Shoji Kita, together with Yasuko Hashimoto representing MURC, held productive discussions to promote cooperation to improve the environmental impact of Bangladesh’s garment and textile industry.
The main focus of the discussion was looking into ways to work together to address environmental issues, specifically with recycling and wastewater management. The state-of-the-art wastewater treatment technologies from JTOP were thoroughly reviewed, with a focus on how their recyclable and reasonably priced solutions may potentially lessen the environmental pollution caused by textile and dyeing facilities.
Talks covered a wide range of relevant topics, such as wastewater laws, the state of the textile sector, installing wastewater treatment plants in industries, the necessity of water recycling, and worries about land subsidence.
Bangladesh’s dedication to promoting environmental sustainability in the ready-made garment (RMG) industry was emphasised by Faruque Hassan.
He briefed the visiting delegation on the RMG industry’s ongoing efforts to promote sustainability, including circularity and compliance with Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards across the manufacturing process.
To promote a more environmentally friendly and sustainably run garment sector in Bangladesh, he stated that BGMEA is open to any partnerships and initiatives.
