Ha-Meem Group has successfully installed a new rooftop solar power plant with a capacity of 4.4 megawatts peak (MWp), increasing its total renewable energy generation capacity to 12.2 MWp. This development marks a significant milestone, as it positions Ha-Meem Group as the owner of the largest photovoltaic (PV) system among Bangladeshi garment and textile factories.
The new solar facility is located at the Ha-Meem Group Industrial Park in Gazipur’s Kaliganj upazila and was installed by FloSolar Solutions, a local firm. This follows the installation of the group’s first solar system, completed by Solaric, a subsidiary of a Singapore-based company.
The total cost of the 12.2 MWp system is approximately Taka 54 crore, which includes a Taka 7 crore grant from the “Program to Support Safety Retrofits and Environmental Upgrades in the Bangladeshi Ready-Made Garments Sector.”
Tanul Chokroborty, head of the energy department at Ha-Meem Group, emphasised the company’s commitment to global sustainability and compliance with renewable energy standards. “Our aim is to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050, which involves balancing the greenhouse gases we emit with those we remove from the atmosphere,” he stated.
In addition to the recently installed system, Ha-Meem Group plans to install another 15 MWp rooftop solar power plant at its textile division factories by June 2026, which would bring the total capacity to 27.2 MWp. However, Chokroborty noted that this would only reduce the group’s total carbon emissions by 6 per cent. To fully offset all emissions and reach net-zero status, an additional 300 MWp will be implemented at their tea garden in Moulvibazar.
Mustafa AK Khan, founder and managing director of FloSolar Solutions, highlighted that the latest solar initiative will provide an average of four hours of power supply to the group’s garment and washing factories daily. The engineering and commissioning of the project were completed last July, while reliable inverters from Dubai-based Powernsun are currently being procured for the system.
The installation is expected to significantly lower electricity costs, produce substantial clean energy annually, and reduce carbon emissions. As foreign buyers increasingly advocate for renewable energy usage, interest among factories to adopt similar solutions is on the rise.
LK Verma, founder and CEO of Powernsun, expressed pride in partnering with FloSolar Solutions on this project, underscoring its role in accelerating the global transition to renewable energy. “Completing the 4.4 MWp solar rooftop project at Ha-Meem Group Industrial Park is a testament to our commitment to this cause,” he stated.
