On Thursday evening, 30th January, a group of garment workers staged a protest in the Kuril Bishwa Road area, demanding the payment of their outstanding wages. The demonstration, involving approximately 100-150 workers from Waymart Apparels, began around 10 PM, causing significant disruptions to traffic in the area.
Zia Rahman Ziko, additional deputy commissioner (traffic) of the Gulshan zone, confirmed the blockade on Jomoj Road, which halted movement and exacerbated an already challenging traffic situation in the city. Earlier in the day, students from Government Titumir College also staged a road blockade near their Mohakhali campus, demanding university status along with several other requests.
Frustrated commuters took to social media to express their grievances about being stranded in traffic for extended periods. However, as of 31st January 2025, there have been no official statements from Waymart Apparels regarding the payment of the outstanding wages. The situation remains unresolved, with workers awaiting their due compensation.
