Experts in Bangladesh have highlighted on the need for a strong framework to ensure social and economic safety of workers employed in both informal and formal sectors even if they also emphasised on the need to form an acceptable database for workers of all sectors including those employed in the country’s readymade garment sector.
Media reports maintained this adding they came up with the observations taking part in a recent event titled ‘Workers’ Social Safety’, organised by Germany-based development agency GIZ Bangladesh along with a local news daily.
Taking part in the same, Chairman, standing committee on the Ministry of Labour and Employment Mujibul Haque, reportedly, maintained on the need to form a strong authority and bringing workers into account immediately while also calling for conducting surveys to find out how many workers are employed in which sector even if Executive Director of Policy Research Institute Ahsan H. Mansur on his part added it would be great if only five to seven powerful programmes could be implemented, instead of more than current 150 Government-run social welfare programmes even as he underlined there was no need for various ministries to be involved in social activities simultaneously.
