Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Bangladesh has been imposing lockdowns and restrictions since last year, in an effort to prevent the spread of the dreaded disease.
Continuing with this trend, the country, in early April this year, imposed yet another nationwide restriction and there were curbs on movement of people as well as business activities to contain the Covid surge.
However, despite the restrictions, garment manufacturing units were allowed to operate following certain guidelines.
Pertaining to the same, a recent survey has underlined that even if the Government had asked factory owners to provide transport facility to the workers to commute to their respective workplaces, only around 4 per cent of the garment received the transport facilities while the report added that in the absence of sufficient public transport, some garment workers could not commute to their workplaces as they normally would and went on to add that around 8 per cent of the workers surveyed maintained that they had to use alternative means to get to work.
