
With the objective to assess private sector’s impact on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) achievements, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) and the United Nations Development Programme or UNDP, have decided to continue collaboration in the area of SDGs reporting by the readymade garment manufacturing units.
As per a press communiqué issued in this direction, the decision to this end was reached after a UNDP delegation called upon the BGMEA President at the latter’s office recently.
The UNDP team comprised Private Sector Engagement Specialist Linda Germanis, Head- Programme Management and Partnership Support Sarder M Asaduzzaman, Programme Specialist – Disaster and Resilience Arif Abdullah Khan amongst others and was headed by Assistant Resident Representative Khurshid Alam while present in the meeting were also BGMEA Director Abdullah Hil Rakib, BGMEA Vice-President Miran Ali and BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, amongst others.
In the said meeting, the BGMEA chair has not only, reportedly, shown interest in continuing the collaboration but also scale up the initiative while deliberating on developing a strategy for disaster resilient supply chain under the National Resilience Programme or NRP.
Earlier, the two entities (BGMEA and UNDP) in association with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) and the Principal Coordinator, SDG Affairs, Prime Minister’s Office, launched a report on Bangladesh National Priority Indicators and SDGs.
