The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has officially endorsed the Simon Project, an initiative led by the Simon Institute in London and jointly funded by Associated British Foods and the German Development Cooperation Agency (GIZ).
The project, launched at BGMEA Complex in Dhaka recently, aims to gather recurrent data for calculating non-fatal accident ratios in Bangladesh.
The collaborative effort involves setting up an innovation site at BGMEA headquarters, deploying IT tools in 9 BGMEA medical centres, and engaging international and local forensic teams.
The project, supported by BGMEA President Faruque Hassan, involves training paramedics and doctors to collect crucial health incidence data.
This data is crucial for determining insurance provisions for readymade garment (RMG) workers, funded by private insurance companies, the public sector, factories, and international brands.
The Simon Project, initiated in 2022 and already collecting data from 50 factories, is set to expand its reach to cover all RMG workers in Bangladesh through the integration of 9 BGMEA medical centres.
