The Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced that the arrears of laid-off workers from the 14 closed factories of Beximco Industrial Park are being systematically cleared. As of 19th March 2025, the company, with support from the labour and finance ministries, has disbursed payments to 33,085 workers. The remaining workers are scheduled to receive their dues by 25th March.
On 28th February 2025, Beximco Textiles officially ceased operations across all its factories, resulting in the termination of its entire workforce. This decision was attributed to a persistent shortage of work orders and financial challenges.
To facilitate the payment of arrears, the government handed over a cheque amounting to Taka 525.46 crore to Beximco Limited on 6th March 2025. This fund is designated to cover the dues of 31,679 workers and 1,565 other staff members from the 14 closed factories.
The disbursement process commenced on 9th March 2025. By 10th March, arrears for 16,142 workers from seven factories had been cleared. Subsequently, on 11th March, an additional 11,293 workers received their dues, bringing the total to 27,680 workers paid thus far. The authorities have committed to completing all remaining payments by 25th March.
The government has established a high-level committee to oversee the situation at Beximco Industrial Park. This committee is tasked with evaluating the current circumstances, assessing the impact on surrounding industrial establishments, and recommending appropriate actions to address any arising issues.
