On Tuesday, the protest by readymade garment workers advocating for a wage increase persisted as they took to the streets, imposing a blockade on roads in the Mirpur area of the capital Dhaka, resulting in the closure of their factories.
In response to the situation, the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association instructed its members to refrain from further recruitment unless in cases of emergency.
The disruption caused by apparel workers was particularly notable in Mirpur-14 around 8:00 am, leading to a halt in traffic for several hours.
Witnesses reported that workers began gathering in front of factories around 8:30 am before dispersing to various points, disrupting transport between Mirpur-10 and Mirpur-14.
Police efforts to prevent road blockades and discourage workers from inviting others to join the protests were evident.
Farukul Alam, the officer-in-charge of Kafrul police station, stated that around 10:00 am, workers positioned themselves on roads in Mirpur-13 and -14 areas, subsequently moving towards the Mirpur-10 crossing.
Subsequently, the police successfully persuaded them to withdraw the road blockade.
