The countrywide shutdown is on in Bangladesh till 25 April with majority of the garment factories shut.
Even as the lockdown continues and amidst allegations by garment workers of not receiving their salary and arrears of the previous month, the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE) had fixed 16 April as the date for all concerned factories to do the needful in this direction.

The DIFE further notified the garment exporters of punitive action, if anyone fails to abide by the Government orders.
Director General of DIFE Shib Nath Roy, issued a notification in this direction to inform the industry people of the Government’s decision.
However, at the time of writing this report, as per local media houses which cited Government data, around 370 garment manufacturing units were yet to pay wages to the apparel workers.
The Government had earlier rolled out a stimulus package, namely Coronavirus bailout package of Taka 50 billion, to help all export-oriented sectors pay the workers’ wages.
