In a case of vandalism and the 18th July fire at Setu Bhaban, KM Rezaul Hasanat David, the chairman and CEO of Viyellatex Group, was granted bail by a Dhaka court on Wednesday.
A sub-inspector of the court police claimed that following the accused’s submission of the bail plea, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Jasim issued the order.
According to court sources, David was the first accused party in the cases brought about by the recent violence at the centre of the quota reform movement to obtain bail.
On 18th July, between 250 and 300 unidentified individuals broke into the Setu Bhaban premises, raided various sheds and rooms, vandalised numerous cars and motorcycles, and then set those items on fire.
Police reported the incident to Banani Police Station when it happened. David was charged with providing funding to the offenders.
David’s five-day remand in the case ended with a Dhaka court sending him to jail.
