More than 200 workers at the International Classic Composite Limited (ICC), a garment factory in Gazipur’s Kadda area, fell ill on Saturday after consuming water supplied at the workplace. The incident prompted the factory to close for the day.
The factory, situated under Bason Police Station in Gazipur Metropolitan City, employs approximately 3,400 workers. According to police officials and workers, employees began their morning shifts as usual. Soon after drinking the water provided at the factory, many workers started experiencing stomach pains and diarrhea. The number of affected workers rapidly increased to over 200.
In response, factory authorities coordinated with workers to provide medical treatment at several nearby private hospitals. Superintendent of Police AKM Zahirul Islam of Gazipur Industrial Police-2 confirmed the incident, stating, “After starting their work in the morning, several workers began feeling unwell after consuming the supplied water. As the number of patients grew, the factory was declared closed for the day.”
He assured that authorities are working closely with factory management to ensure proper medical care for the affected workers and that arrangements are in place for advanced treatment if needed. “The situation is currently under control,” he added.
