The 16-member Board of Directors for the 2024–2026 term of the Japan–Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JBCCI) has been elected, and Tareq Rafi Bhuiyan (Jun) will serve as its president. Tareq is the managing director of New Vision Solutions Limited and was the secretary general for three terms in a row.
The chamber’s first female secretary general, Maria Howlader, was able to obtain a second consecutive term in this position.
Kenji Kimura, the chief representative of MUFG Bank’s Dhaka office, was also named treasurer by the chamber. Hiroaki Oura and Anwar Shahid were chosen to serve as vice presidents one and two, respectively.
As a key venue for Japanese investments in a number of industries, notably the ready-made garment (RMG) sector, which is a pillar of Bangladesh’s economy, JBCCI plays a critical role in strengthening business ties between Japan and Bangladesh. Out of its 313 members, 71 of which are Japanese corporations, 61.98 percent of them voted in the most recent election.
In the upcoming years, it is anticipated that the elected board would promote and deepen commercial relations between the two countries.
