An encouraging milestone for the TNZ Group workforce is that 120 employees and 3,620 workers in five plants in Gazipur City have received their salaries, which had been past due for a month. Mosharraf Hossain, Assistant Superintendent of Gazipur Industrial Police, acknowledged the payment, stating that three days before to the planned payment date, on the evening of the previous day, the money was deposited into the employees’ accounts.
The plants will reopen tomorrow, according to TNZ Group Chairman Hedayetul Haque, who also expressed hope that staff will resume their responsibilities and help the company recover from recent production losses.
Five factories run by the TNZ Group are situated in Gazipur’s Mogarkhal neighbourhood. Following a demonstration on November 9 in which some 2,000 workers blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway to demand their unpaid salaries, the latest payment was made.
Now that salaries have been paid, management and employees are looking forward to business as usual.
