
In a significant step towards stimulating collaboration with and improving Bangladesh’s domestic cotton industry, Kerry Conway, Team Leader of the PSCP (Primark Sustainable Cotton Programme), met with Md. Fazlul Hoque, Vice-President of BTMA (Bangladesh Textile Mills Association) at the BTMA Gulshan Office in Dhaka.
Accompanying Conway were Farid Uddin, Country Representative, Dawa Dorje, Senior Director, and Sadequl Amin, PSCP Manager, Bangladesh, all representing PRIMARK. From the BTMA side, the meeting was attended by Directors Md. Mosharaf Hossain and Engr. Estahak Ahmed Shaikat.
The major goal of the discussion was to discuss potential collaboration opportunities between BTMA and PRIMARK. The rise of domestic cotton in Bangladesh, as well as the numerous ways in which different stakeholders could participate in its development, were significant topics of debate. Both sides emphasised the need to support the local cotton industry to ensure the textile sector’s long-term growth.
In addition, the group discussed prospective advocacy activities with the Government of Bangladesh. The goal is to incentivise local cotton market participants, promoting more investment and boosting sectoral growth. The discussions emphasised the importance of strategic efforts and policies that benefit the local cotton market, ensuring its long-term viability and competitiveness.
