A delegation from the Economic Relations Division (ERD) under the Ministry of Finance visited the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) on 30 September to review the country’s progress in green manufacturing and preparations for the upcoming COP30 summit in Belém, Brazil, scheduled for November 2025.
Discussions focused on the decarbonisation pathway of Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector and the nation’s global leadership in green buildings. With 263 factories already LEED certified, Bangladesh now boasts the highest number of top-rated green garment factories worldwide, setting a global benchmark for sustainable manufacturing.
Vidiya Amrit Khan, Vice President of BGMEA, highlighted the importance of aligning the RMG sector’s sustainability initiatives with COP30’s global climate agenda. She emphasised the need to accelerate decarbonisation and advance the transition toward a circular economy.
Khan also stressed the importance of greater access to international climate finance mechanisms, including the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Green Transformation Fund (GTF), to support the industry’s low-carbon transition. She added that these resources, coupled with Bangladesh’s achievements in green buildings and circularity, could unlock opportunities for innovation, enhance market access, and strengthen long-term resilience in the RMG sector.
