The private arm of the Swedish Government, Swisscontact, along with the Swedish embassy in Dhaka, recently formalised a partnership through a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Team Group of Bangladesh even if the collaboration aims to nurture skilled young workers in the production of high-end value-added garments.
This agreement was signed on the occasion of International Youth Day, aligning with this year’s theme, which focuses on ‘Green Skilling for Youth in the Garment Sector.’ The partnership underscores the commitment of the Swedish government to this cause.
Currently, Swisscontact, in conjunction with the Embassy of Sweden, is actively engaged in the implementation of the Promoting Green Growth in Readymade Garments Through Skills (Progress) project, initiated in October 2022. Under this project, Swisscontact (Progress) will facilitate skill development at 4A Dyeing Ltd., a platinum-rated green garment factory operated by Team Group in Savar, Dhaka even if the objective is to equip workers with the necessary expertise to manufacture garment items while adhering to environmentally friendly practices.
The MoU’s primary focus is on enhancing skills and boosting productivity, with a special emphasis on empowering women within the ready-made garments sector. 4A Dyeing Ltd highlighted the collaborative effort’s aspiration in this direction.
The signing ceremony of the MoU witnessed the presence of several key figures, including Maria Stridsman, Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Sweden in Dhaka; Ikarmul Sohel, National Programme Officer at the Embassy of Sweden; Mujibul Hasan Cezanne, Country Director of Swisscontact; Syeda Ishrat Fatema, Team Leader at Swisscontact for the Progress project; Abdullah Hil Nakib, Deputy Managing Director of Team Group; and Md Zahedul Hoque, Executive Director of 4A Yarn Dyeing Ltd.
