The children of the garment workers who were injured in the infamous Tazreen Fashion fire incident participated in a 2-month-long sit-in programme on Monday, while also writing open letters to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina requesting her to arrange compensations for their injured parents, as per media reports.
The children of the injured workers also carried placards and stood in front of Dhaka’s National Press Club, the report added.
“We plead to the PM to accept the list of three-point demands, including early compensation and return our family to us,” reportedly wrote a child in her open letter adding the children of the injured workers were unable to eat properly due to lack of income.
It may be mentioned here that on 24 November 2012, a fire broke out in the Ashulia-based Tazreen Fashion, in the outskirts of capital Dhaka in which 114 workers lost their lives and more than 300 got injured.
The unemployed and the injured workers of the Tazreen Fashion have been staging the sit-in since 18 September to press home their list of three demands which include compensation for the injured and instituting an amendment to a section of the compensation law, long-term medical treatment to the injured and dignified and practical rehabilitation.
