
US Commercial Counselor (Trade) Paul G. Frost called on Md Hafizur Rahman, administrator of the Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI), to discuss enhancing bilateral trade and potential cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, Hafizur urged exploring a bilateral trade agreement between Bangladesh and the United States, saying such a pact could help boost trade amid intensified global competition. He noted Bangladesh’s long-standing trade relationship with the US, which remains one of the largest markets for Bangladeshi exports, particularly ready-made garments. He stressed that timely action on a formal agreement is crucial to fully leverage trade potential and supply chain advantages.
Frost highlighted the importance of stronger business networks and encouraged Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to participate in the upcoming investment summit in the United States, while stressing the need for broader cooperation beyond trade.
Hafizur also expressed appreciation to the US government for reducing reciprocal tariffs on Bangladeshi products.
Attending the meeting were FBCCI Secretary Md Alamgir; Head of the International Affairs Wing Md Zafar Iqbal; Head of the FBCCI Safety Council Brig Gen (ret) Abu Nayeem Md Shahidullah, among others.
