In a significant meeting held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka, André Carstens, the Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bangladesh, met with Anwar Hossain, Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA). The discussion centered around fostering collaboration to enhance sustainability in Bangladesh’s ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
The meeting, which included members of the BGMEA Support Committee, emphasised advancing environmental sustainability through circular fashion, recycling initiatives, and energy efficiency. Anwar Hossain highlighted the industry’s achievements in workplace safety, social and environmental compliance, and sustainable manufacturing practices.
During the meeting, Hossain presented the BGMEA’s Sustainable Strategic Vision-2030, which aims to harmonize social and environmental responsibilities with economic viability. This vision prioritizes innovation, diversification of products and markets, and increased productivity within the sector.
Expressing appreciation for the Netherlands’ ongoing support, Hossain noted their assistance in establishing the Textile Technology Business Center (TTBC) at the BGMEA Complex. He called for continued collaboration in areas such as knowledge sharing, technological advancements, and financial resources to enhance resource efficiency, energy utilization, and recycling capabilities within the garment industry.
Hossain also sought the Netherlands’ cooperation in improving the skills and knowledge of Bangladeshi students in textiles, fashion, design, and business through partnerships with esteemed Dutch universities and institutions.
Ambassador Carstens commended the significant progress made by Bangladesh’s RMG sector and reaffirmed the Netherlands’ commitment to supporting the sustainable growth of the garment industry. He emphasised that the Netherlands government has been a dedicated partner in Bangladesh’s development for over 50 years and will continue to contribute to the country’s overall progress, including its garment sector.
