Expressing optimism about the GSP Plus benefits after Bangladesh’s graduation, the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has underlined there is no major barrier for Bangladesh to get GSP Plus benefits in the European Union (EU) market whenever applicable as Bangladesh graduates from the club of least developed countries (LDCs).
Media reports maintained this adding BGMEA President Faruque Hassan made this observation during a recent press conference even as he, reportedly, thanked the EU for its favourable initiative to countries like Bangladesh.
…the BGMEA and the Government are working together to ensure continuation of the EBA facilities for 12 years after 2029, reportedly, claimed the BGMEA President.
It may be mentioned here that the EU has granted trade preferences to developing countries through the generalised scheme of preferences (GSP) since 1971, which is one of the key EU trade instruments to assist developing countries to integrate with the world economy, reduce poverty and support sustainable development through the promotion of core human and labour rights, good governance and environmental protection.
