Antonio Alessandro, the Ambassador of Italy to Bangladesh, held a meeting with Anwar Hossain, Administrator of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), on Thursday at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka. The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral relations and exploring collaborative opportunities, particularly in the ready-made garment (RMG) sector.
During their discussions, both officials addressed strategies to increase Bangladesh’s apparel export share in the Italian market, particularly in the high-end product segment, an area where Bangladeshi manufacturers are making substantial investments.
Anwar Hossain provided insights into the significant transformations underway in Bangladesh, highlighting the Interim Government’s commitment to fostering a more business-friendly environment aimed at attracting foreign investment. He noted the remarkable advancements in Bangladesh’s RMG industry concerning environmental sustainability, stating that the country now hosts the highest number of green garment factories globally, showcasing its dedication to sustainable production practices.
Hossain urged Ambassador Alessandro to encourage Italian businesses to explore investment opportunities in emerging sectors within Bangladesh, including the non-cotton textile industry.
Ambassador Alessandro acknowledged the untapped potential for collaboration between Italy and Bangladesh and proposed further engagement to identify and leverage opportunities for enhancing trade and investment between the two nations.
