
The country’s net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) decreased by 13.80 per cent in the previous year, according to the most recent Bangladesh Bank statistics.
It revealed that in 2023, the net inflow of foreign direct investment (FDI) decreased to US $ 3 billion, from roughly US $ 3.48 billion, in 2022.
Additionally, according to central bank figures, the country’s equity, or more specifically, the new capital infusion from foreign entities, and the reinvested earnings of the multinational enterprises (MNEs) already operating there, decreased over the previous year.
FDI in the form of equity fell from US $ 1,022.63 million in 2022 to US $ 705.84 million in the most recent year. During the reviewed period, net reinvested earnings decreased as well, from US $ 2,514.97 million to US $ 2,209.66 million.
However, intra-company loans saw a US $ 57.65 million decrease the year before before rising to US $ 88.90 million last year.
Additional data from the central bank revealed that while disinvestment totaled US $ 965.36 million last year, the gross inflow of foreign direct investment was US $ 3,969.76 million.
