A preliminary report of district administration on recent violence at Richa & Co. Udyog Vihar, Gurgaon hints that violence was the result of a deliberate attempt to destabilize the garment industry in the city and wasn’t due to the rumour of worker’s death. As per media reports, it appeared to have been ‘orchestrated by vested interests’ to create ‘widespread labour unrest’ in the manufacturing hub. On 12th February, workers vandalized garment factories and burnt cars which resulted in heavy loss. Additionally, it is hinted that more attempts will be made to incite violence in the coming days.
The officials have found that a fictitious organization had requested the labour department to be registered as a labour union but it showed only 100 enlisted workers, the application for registration was rejected. It is also being said that mob destroyed the CCTV footage of violence. According to media reports, an HR Manager of one of the garment units, working since long time is absconding. Two persons have been arrested in the case – one is a security guard of a garment factory and the other is a rioter. Work in factories started smoothly on the next day of the incident.
