
As Bangladesh is set to leave the least developing countries’ (LDC) grouping to join the big league of developing nations, which will come with its own share of challenges, a special committee under the Commerce Ministry has started working to find ways how to address the post-graduation challenges.
As per media reports, Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi maintained this recently while adding that as Bangladesh is going to graduate out of the group of the LDCs most likely by 2024, after which some existing policy flexibilities and trade preferences will either be lost or will be significantly reduced even as he went on to add post-graduation certain export support measures like cash assistance schemes are most likely to be impossible to continue given the rules and provisions of the WTO (World Trade Organisation) while underlining that to meet those challenges, his ministry has formed a special committee.
