With a cumulative capacity of 40 megawatts (MW), Korean global business conglomerate Youngone is commissioning the largest rooftop solar power project in Bangladesh at the port city Chittagong’s Korean Export Processing Zone (KEPZ), which it owns.
This was maintained in media reports, which claimed that the project, in this regard, will be executed in three phases — in the first phase, a 16 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant, which itself is the largest ever rooftop solar PV system in Bangladesh till date, has been installed at the expense of US $ 16 million already while work on a 4.3 MW system that involves a cost of US $ 4.3 million is expected to be completed by October 2021 in the second phase, and in the third phase of the project another 20 MW system is to be set up as an Independent Power Plant (IPP) within a 12-month timeframe, which is, reportedly, awaiting approval from the Government yet — and will cover all the buildings in the KEPZ, and executed at an estimated cost of US $ 40 million.
Apart from this US $ 40 million project, the Korean textile major, which is a leading global manufacturer of outdoor/athletic clothing, textiles, footwear and gear, has, reportedly, also built green buildings even as it planted around 2.4 million trees in the KEPZ.
