
Muhammad Wasif, Charge d’Affaires of Pakistan, recently paid a courtesy visit to Mahmud Hasan Khan Babu, President of the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), to discuss expanding bilateral trade and cooperation in the garments and textile sectors.
The meeting was also attended by Zain Aziz, Trade and Investment Attaché of the Pakistan High Commission, along with BGMEA Vice President Md. Rezwan Selim and Directors Faisal Samad, Sumaiya Islam, and Fahima Akhter.
During the discussions, both parties explored avenues for deepening trade ties, particularly focusing on increasing textile imports from Pakistan and boosting Bangladesh’s export of ready-made garments and accessories to Pakistan. The BGMEA President highlighted Bangladesh’s significant progress in garment accessories production and stressed the potential for collaboration to benefit both industries.
A key topic was the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) previously signed between BGMEA and the Pakistan Ready-Made Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PRGMEA). Both sides agreed on the need to translate the MoU into practical actions involving active engagement from business communities in both countries.
To promote sustained cooperation, the parties expressed interest in organizing joint trade exhibitions, technical workshops, and reciprocal business delegation exchanges. They also agreed to appoint focal points on each side to accelerate trade and investment cooperation.
The meeting further discussed potential collaboration in textile waste recycling and jute fiber imports, reflecting a shared commitment to sustainability and innovation.
This visit marks a positive step towards fostering regional cooperation between Bangladesh and Pakistan’s apparel industries, with a focus on mutual growth, knowledge sharing, and expanding market access.
