The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has announced that its upcoming elections will take place in April. This decision was revealed by BGMEA Administrator Anwar Hossain following a meeting with key leaders from the two competing factions – Sammilita Parishad and Sammilita Forum – held at the BGMEA Complex in Uttara, Dhaka.
Notable figures in attendance included former BGMEA Presidents Kazi Moniruzzaman, SM Fazlul Haque, Anwar-ul-Pervez, and Khandaker Rafiqul Islam, along with panel leaders from both factions and members of the BGMEA supporting committee.
Anwar Hossain stated that efforts are being made to facilitate a swift electoral process with the cooperation of all stakeholders, emphasising the commitment to conduct transparent and fair elections. The meeting concluded with a consensus to establish the election management board and related committees by the end of January, aiming to complete the electoral process by the end of April.
Additionally, the meeting addressed pressing issues facing the garment industry, including the current energy crisis, banking challenges, and concerns related to the National Board of Revenue (NBR).
