In a recent roundtable conference hosted by a leading Bangladeshi Daily, apparel leaders once again raised the demand of a separate dedicated ministry for the garment sector. Titled RMG Sector: Challenges and Way Forward – the conference was attended by Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, RMG leaders, makers and exporters, leaders of workers and representatives from ILO, Accord and Alliance. Apart from a demand of a dedicated ministry, the conference concluded with the need to address issues of forward linkage, skilled human resources, bureaucratic hurdles, gas and power shortage, high bank interest rates and infrastructure.
