Even as Bangladesh is all set to join the big league of developing nations that might come with its own share of economic implications, Bangladesh has recently formally proposed to the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) to sign a free-trade agreement (FTA), considering the vast opportunities that exist there.
Media reports maintained this citing the concerned officials even as it added the proposal was made last week on the back of a tip from the EEC or Eurasian Economic Commission so that it could seek concurrence of its member states – Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan.
Meanwhile, as per the concerned officials, the first meeting of the working group was held in November last in Moscow, with the Bangladesh side led by Commerce Ministry Additional Secretary Noor Md. Mahbubul Haq and the EEC side headed by its board member Sergey Glaziev even as in the said meeting the Bangladesh side, reportedly, expressed interest in concluding an FTA with the EAEU consequent to which the EEC suggested sending a formal proposal in this regard.
