Two new factories in Bangladesh have successfully attained Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). The factories, Continental Garments Ind Pvt. Ltd. and Amir Shirt’s Limited, have been recognised for their commitment to environmentally friendly manufacturing practices, as reported by the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).
With these recent certifications, the total number of LEED-certified green factories in Bangladesh has reached an impressive 232. The USGBC awards this certification to companies that demonstrate excellence in reducing their environmental impact through the implementation of energy-efficient technologies, water conservation methods, and waste reduction strategies.
This achievement is part of Bangladesh’s broader initiative to integrate greener practices within its textile and garment sectors. Former BGMEA director Mohiuddin Rubel commented on the significance of these new certifications, stating that they not only contribute to the increasing number of LEED Green Factories in the country but also reinforce Bangladesh’s reputation as a global leader in sustainable manufacturing.
