
Mohammad Hatem, President of the Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA), emphasised the importance of maintaining labor discipline to ensure the survival of the ready-made garment (RMG) industry amid ongoing global and internal crises. He made these remarks during a key dialogue held at the BKMEA head office in Narayanganj.
At the meeting, representatives from the industrial police, the army, the Narayanganj district administration, and various knitwear factory owners came together to discuss the current labor situation and strategize for future challenges facing the industry.
Addressing the gathering, Hatem highlighted the difficulties faced by the RMG sector due to the US tariff policies, fluctuating global trade dynamics, and internal crises within the country. He underscored that maintaining labor discipline is vital in navigating this turbulent period.
Hatem assured that the industrial police, the army, government agencies, and BKMEA are prepared to collaborate in tackling the crisis. He called on all stakeholders to unite under a common platform to safeguard the industry’s future during these critical times.
The meeting was attended by Asaduzzaman, Deputy Inspector General of the Industrial Police; Major Ayaz of the Bangladesh Army; Rajib Das, Deputy Inspector General at the Department of Inspection for Factories and Establishments (DIFE); and Alamgir Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Narayanganj District Administration. Several BKMEA directors, including Ratan Kumar Saha, Khandaker Saiful Islam, Mohammad Nazrul Islam, and Ahmed Salauddin, also participated actively.
