
Leaders in the textile and apparel (T&A) sector, experts and suppliers of chemicals, and brands all agreed that cooperation is essential to achieving sustainable fashion. They expressed their opinions at the ZDHC (Zero Discharge of Hazardous Chemicals) South Asia Stakeholder Event in Bangladesh in Dhaka.
The one-day event, with the theme Building a Culture of Sustainable Chemical Management in the Fashion Industry, provided textile and apparel industry experts with a special chance to exchange best practices and investigate cutting-edge approaches to sustainable chemical management in the fashion sector. It also included panel discussions and presentations from industry experts.
Special Dignitary of the event, Md. Shafiqur Rahman, President, the Institution of Textile Engineers & Technologists (ITET) and Managing Director, HAMS Group said, “The planet is enduring severe damage from the reckless disposal of industrial waste, with the fashion industry being a major contributor. We must move to sustainable practices in textile chemistry. As the fashion industry operates on a global scale with a complex supply chain involving numerous stakeholders, collaboration is essential for achieving sustainability in this sector.”
Highlighting the essential role of brands and retailers in the sustainability movement, he stated, “I thank the leading fashion brands for setting and pursuing sustainability targets. These initiatives are driving positive transformations among all stakeholders.
