Indian conglomerate Aditya Birla Group and Swedish company Domsjö are soon expected to zero upon a joint smart textile project.
The information was revealed by Sven-Erik Bucht Minister for Rural Affairs, Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation (Sweden), who recently visited India to discuss the plan as part of their efforts to boost bilateral trade between India and Sweden.
Aditya Birla Group is considered as a leader in viscose staple fibre (VSF) manufacturing which makes it the most suitable partner for the textile project.
During the visit, Bucht even toured Aditya Birla Group Textile Research Application Development Centre at Kharach, Gujarat.
“We are keen to explore the possibility of a joint project within the area of smart textiles using VSF, cellulosic fibre and pulp as an alternative to cotton. My visit to the Aditya Birla Group is a part of the bilateral ambition to increase cooperation and trade as well as create synergies and partnerships between the two nations,” said Bucht.
The visit came close on the heels of a joint statement released by Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Löfvén and Indian Premier Narendra Modi on cooperation in implementing efforts in the areas of research and innovation.
Bucht also held talks with Dilip Gaur, Managing Director and Vinod Tiwari, COO, Pulp & Fibre Business Grasim (Aditya Birla Group) in Mumbai, to take the project forward.
