In what is seen as an effort towards ensuring the growth and development of the e-commerce sector in Bangladesh, the e-Commerce Association of Bangladesh (e-CAB) has demanded tax rebates from the Government for the e-commerce entities even if tax structure for e-commerce companies includes 5 per cent VAT on sales commission, 6 per cent turnover tax and 15 per cent VAT on delivery charges.
This is as per reports, which underlined that in a recent letter to the National Board of Revenue (NBR), the e-CAB also proposed cutting the 15 per cent VAT on rent for office space as well as fulfilment centres while also sorting out the issue of houses.
Meanwhile, interacting with the media, industry players reportedly maintained having faced a significant downturn for the past two years; tax rebates were needed by the e-commerce entities so as to regain their foothold and growth trajectory.
Keeping the challenges in perspective, the e-CAB also reportedly proposed the reporting of liabilities for VAT should lie with the individual sellers of services and goods.
